Valentine's Day Fun For The Entire Family!
72
Valentine's Day is such a cool holiday. I love the pinks, reds and purples...frilly homemade valentines, candy hearts with quotes and boxes of chocolates. It's the perfect holiday to show your sweetie you care.
Whether your significant other is your wife or hubby, gal or guy, child, teacher, parent or pet here is a comprehensive Valentine's guide for unique, inexpensive fun things to do for Valentine's Day.
Watch the movie Sleepless In Seattle. If you've never seen this Valentine's Day classic run don't walk to get the DVD for this totally heart warming tale. It's the story of a little boy whose mother died, and through a radio talk show host he connects his lonely father to a girl that is close to marrying her boring best friend. He ghost writes letters back and forth arranging for the two to meet atop the Empire State Building on Valentine's Day night as in the classic movie An Affair To Remember- which BTW is another great Valentine's Day tear jerker.Follow up one movie with the other.
Don't forget the popcorn and cokes. Make it a little special in an inexpensive way with cute containers from stores that specialize in everything is a dollar.
Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks star in Sleepless and Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant are the stars in Affair. Both are fantastic movies.
Valentines On A Shoe String
Make a string of hearts, a Valentine finger puppet or an adorable heart-mouse lolli pop holder. These simple activities are so easy and so cute. Basically all that is needed is scissors, glue, construction paper, markers and perhaps some googly eyes (for the finger puppets) and lolli-pops.
The accordion style hearts remind me of that old fashioned way of making a string of paper dolls. Print letters T E A C H E R or perhaps your Sweetie's name on the hearts for a simple really cute inexpensive alternative to a card. See how cute the mouse is! It's a valentine shape folded in half to resemble a mouse with a smaller folded valentine for ears. His tail is a tucked in lolli-pop! Have the kids make a couple dozen to share with classmates.;a unique way to replace the store bought ones.

Personalized Candy Boxes
If you have saved heart-shaped candy boxes, the ones that the assorted chocolates come in, use them for these projects-or transform a new box that you buy this year into a personalized candy box. If you use a recycled candy box here is a recipe for really easy chocolates to refill your box. It basically is as easy as melting chocolate morsels in the microwave.
Use candy molds for forming the melted chocolates.Directions are included for various ways to decorate the chocolate hearts from sprinkles to marshmallows.
Candy Box One:
1.trace the lid of the box onto white drawing paper
2, use scrap-booking paper or pretty designs cut from magazine to make a collage onto the traced cut-out.
3. Glue the collage heart to the top of the box lid.
4. Cut letters from a magazine to form a personalized message.
5. Spray with decoupage spray.
Candy Box Two:
1. Trace the lid of the box onto pink or red paper.
2. glue over the box lid.
3. cut bunches of one inch squares from white tissue paper.
4. pinch squares in the middle and glue around the edge of the box to form a white ruffle.Use white paint to write a personal meassage.
Watch Lady And The Tramp
What Lady doesn't fall for a Rogue at least once in her life? Celebrate this fact of nature with Disney's Lady and The Tramp. Plan dinner and a movie with puppy love, spaghetti and meat balls. You and your honey may want to re create the scene where Lady and the Tramp share their spaghetti. How romantic is that!
Easiest and Tastiest Spaghetti and Meat Ball Recipe: (Nutmeg gives a Unique flavor to this inexpensive recipe).
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 to 2 lbs lean ground beef
1cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 egg
1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 large jar of prepared sauce, such as Ragu
Directions:
Combine ingredients and form into balls. Bring the pasta sauce to a boil and toss in the meat balls. Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes. Serve over cooked pasta.
Pretty Candy Jars
Save a pretty jar. Clean it up and pack it with candy hearts. Toss in a few foil covered chocolate treats and add a pretty bow. This makes a great teacher gift. A few bags of inexpensive conversational hearts and chocolates will allow you to make one for favorite aunts, grandmothers and neighbors. It is a good way to recycle a glass jar too!
Great Project!
Make A Valentine Card Holder For School
Are the kids going to be doing a Valentine exchange at school. Make one of these adorable pouches with them the weekend before. A hole punch is used to make a sort of lacing card. Beads, yarn and pop-up hearts can really get you going creatively. They have a yarn handle as well for easy carrying.
Valentine's Tea
Have a cozy afternoon tea on Valentine's Day. A four o'clock tea is perfect for after-school when Valentine's Day is on a school day. Make it for just the family or invite a few friends. Decorate the table and serve Valentine cookies. Or try these tasty tea sandwiches:
Cut shapes from white wheat bread with a Valentine cookie cutter. Spread with cream cheese and raspberry jam for making sandwiches. Brown lightly on a buttered griddle and dust with confectioner sugar.
Puppy Love
Are you in love with a favorite pet? Pets are an important part of family life. They help us teach our kids responsibility and provide companionship for many. Use this holiday to help remind yourself that our pets need a variety of toys to stay healthy and happy. Rotate toys so that Fluffy or Fido does not get bored. This will cut down or eliminate destructive behavior, especially when pets are left alone.
The dogs and cats will appreciate some healthy treats as well. There are so many new treat recipes for pets. It seems a trendy thing to do. Good commercial treats are also available.
Name A Star!
Did you know that there are websites available that allow you to registrar and name a star? I am not sure how reliable this gig is but it sure sounds romantic and goodness knows there are plenty of stars to go around! Prices range from around twenty to sixty dollars. Just google star registry.
